When Madonna says “the most controversial thing I’ve ever done is to stick around” it hits differently for people like me. Often times it feels like this world is not for us, but that's a lie. That’s where it all starts, with that lie.
My work deconstructs that lie, emerging from rupture, from recovery, from the quiet labour of healing the mind. I turn the unseen into something you and I can hold (space for).
My art is not a decoration; it is a declaration. It is a protest against the structures of oppression. Against all the things and people who fuck with our heads. Against that lie, with passion. My defiance is not a privilege, it is a responsibility. It's personal.
My practice is the space where I play; where boundaries don’t exist; where I exhale. Where I tell the truth. I reassemble the challenging to express into the easy to see. It becomes a shared space for recognition, reflection and release.
My art is for everyone, and it speaks profoundly of the unseen; the other; of those who have sat in silence, whose truths were too heavy, too strange to speak of. Me. Us.
I believe in beauty that is subjective; in courage as a daily practice, in language as a bridge, in art as a healer, in reflection without spectacle, in making as a form of resistance and care. The reward is plenty, and its name is Freedom.
This is a living practice; a room without doors. It is an invitation to feel more, to fear less, to meet each other at the edge of what’s bearable and bind ourselves against that lie.
With love, from the other side.
