A merger of two worlds, this circular painting weaves together Eastern and Western influences into a single luminous surface. A metallic vermillion ground recalls the Chinese tradition of red underpainting beneath gold, a symbol of prosperity and ritual. The gilded top layer holds a subtle oxidised pattern inspired by the decorative tiles of Lisbon, echoing Portuguese heritage. In places, the gold leaf remains incomplete, giving the work a subtly aged and distressed character. As the light moves across the piece, it reveals shifting reflections that speak to shared histories and the layered nature of cultural identity.
